Travel Photography Tours and Weekend Digital SLR Classes
Take Creative Control of your Digital SLR Camera
October 2nd and 3rd 2010.
Petaluma California. In Sonoma County, less than an hour north of San Francisco.

Rockin H Ranch - a privately owned 150 acre ranch right along the Petaluma River. This is a unique property that provides not only convenient meeting space but access to nature, Victorian architecture, an award winning vineyard, and beautiful horses on a working ranch. Our host is my friend and client Keli Hendricks, a world-class horse trainer and rider with a wonderful (if irreverent) sense of humor.

Class Overview
This practical, hands-on workshop teaches beginning and intermediate digital SLR users to master their cameras. Working with a professional in a small group, you will learn to take excellent photographs consistently.
Class size is limited - usually 6 to 8 students, which allows us to cover the material more efficiently, tailor the class to the interest and skill levels of the participants, and learn from each other's photographic choices.
We will have the opportunity to sharpen our skills in natural light portraiture (both equine and human), photograph horses in action, and many other subjects all in one comfortable and scenic location.

Schedule and Cost
The class is scheduled to run from 11:30 am to 7:00 pm Saturday and Sunday (Oct 2-3). There will be a lunch break of course. The evening hours will be the best for photography as the sun will set near 7pm. Cost of the 2-day class is $190.

More details on this unique class
This class is aimed at the beginning to intermediate amateur using any type of digital SLR camera. (e.g. Canon Rebel, Nikon D40, etc). While you can often get good photographs with your camera's automatic settings, I will teach you to consistently take excellent shots. You'll learn to get correct exposure every time, control shutter speed to freeze and blur action, control aperture to creatively select depth of field, and ensure sharp focus on your main subject in each image.
This is a hands-on, "learn by doing" workshop. When we talk about aperture, it will not be just theory, you will be looking at its effect through your own lens. Every aspect will be applied and practiced with your camera so you can take creative control. This is an ambitious program where I coach you in the core elements of shooting like a professional.
A copy of my upcoming eBook will be provided and covers detailed information on technical terminology, where and when to apply techniques, and my personal tips for creating powerful images.
Along with these technical elements, we'll work on artfully composing images. Exploring locations as a small group, we'll consider our subjects, decide what draws us to them, and translate that into strong and meaningful compositions. We will strive to see the world with new eyes, and find beauty everywhere.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions about this class and to discuss if it is what you are looking for to take your photography to the next level.
